Tarrant, Henry Jefferd

Solicitor, barrister. Admitted to the Middle Temple; called to the bar (11/12/1859). Hong Kong (1851- ). Practice in Rangoon; at one time as Recorder of Moulmein.

Articled clerk to Messrs. Coley and Gaskell, solicitors. Solicitor (admitted after local examination 3/17/1851); struck off the roll at own request (11/7/1859). Barrister (admitted 6/3/1863).

f/o Mary Tarrant (d.8/12/1939. m.7/16/1890, Evelyn Pollock, Lt. Royal Artillery, later Capt., final rank Lt.Col., CBE.).

  • Ronald Evelyn Pollack, Tarrant's grandson (eldest son of Mary Tarrant and Evelyn Pollock), was a Gray's Inn barrister. He went to India to join the Indian Civil Service and became a judge; he was Judge of the High Court of Nagpur (1936-1948), Acting Chief Justice of Nagpur (1947); and was appointed Chairman of the Medical Appeal Tribunal, Sourhter Region (1948-1963). He was knighted in 1947.
